Current Technology being Produced

http://www.reuters.com/video/2011/07/03/vest-technology-brings-new-hope-for-the?videoId=216745229

I discovered this product being made in America that helps users avoid obstacles when walking.  It is a helmet with the technology on top, but they are hoping to make it into something more subtle such a pair of sunglasses that may encourage people to use it more. It is exactly the sort of product that I was planning on producing, so I will have to work on my design more and add more elements to make it more innovative.

Vibrating Shoe for the Blind

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technology/2011/09/students-invent-vibrating-shoe-for-the-blind/

This is a link to an article on a shoe that was invented in order to help people navigate obstacles.  It is a raw prototype but seems like an incredible product for them to have created.  I think there may be another area rather than just the feet that may need this technology to be placed, but overall it is very much along the same lines of the product I want to produce.

This is a link to a device that was created for visually impaired wheelchair users.  It uses the same technology that I would like to incorporate into my own design.

There are some pretty cool ideas included in this post…some of which are very similar to ideas I had planned to use as my final year project but that I’ll have to adjust now.

Boy uses echolocation

This is a boy who lost his sight at 2 years old who figured out a way to use echolocation to navigate his way around.  This is the perfect example of what I want my product to do for people.
